A bit late, but here is the latest GWYC newsletter as sent out in November 2016.

Dear Members,

2017 – Platinum Anniversary: This year, the club has had a very successful year, with plenty of events for everyone. Next year, The Green Wyvern celebrates its Seventieth Anniversary, 1947 – 2017. We would like to make this a year of celebration, so there will be a 70th Commemoration Cruise at the end of May. If you have further ideas as to how we could celebrate seventy years of sailing on The Broads, please let any committee member know and we will see what we can do.

Norfolk Christmas Party: This year we are planning a Christmas lunch at The Ship, Reedham on Sunday 18th December, 1.30 – 1.45. Roast turkey or beef with all the trimmings followed by Christmas pudding or your choice of puddings from the menu and coffee to finish. £15.00 to be collected on the day. Please let me know by Sunday 4th December if you are going to join us. If you have specific dietary requirements, please ring Peter Clutten at The Ship on 01493 700287, but please let me know as well so that we have correct numbers for the pub. Later on in the afternoon, The Ship is hoping to put on carols and mulled wine which we are welcome to join, if we wish.

2016 De-Rigging Party: This was at The Ship at Reedham, on Saturday 29th October and was attended by over forty people, thirty five of whom enjoyed a lovely buffet. We were made very welcome by Peter Clutten and his staff. We also had a raffle to raise funds for Instructor Training. My thanks to all club members and friends, who generously donated prizes and bought numerous tickets, raising £300.

2016 Annual General Meeting: This was held at The Ship at Reedham, on Sunday 30th October. It was attended by twenty six people and there were twenty four apologies. A minutes silence was held for John Tunwell and Martin Anderson who died since the last AGM. Both have been members of the Wyvern for over fifty years. They will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with their families.

The Minutes of the 2015 AGM and the Officers’ Reports for 2016: These were all passed unanimously, with the Commodore giving his thanks to the committee, boat owners and all of those who support the club.

Election of officers: The new committee are as follows:

Commodore  Andy Garnham
Vice Commodore   Mark Thorne
Chief Instructor Jonathan Winterton
Treasurer Trevor Potter
Secretary Rosemary Winterton
Sailing Secretary  Will Armour
Meetings Secretary Ian Bowmaker
Committee Member Melanie Farrar
Committee Member Denis Kilner
Committee Member Simon Miles
Committee Member Martin Rodford

Examiner of Accounts:
Tim Hurren has stepped down as Examiner of Accounts after many years. Andy Garnham presented Tim with a Rear Commodore’s flag to thank him for his services to the club. Andy Christie was elected as Examiner of Accounts for the forthcoming year.
Cruise Fees and Food Money for 2017:
It was decided that cruise fees would remain at £140 per week and it was agreed that food money should remain at £35. The club still remains a non-profit making organisation. I am sure that you will agree that a week long cruise on The Broads for £175, including food is still very good value for money. I would like to take this opportunity to remind members that the GWYC does have a contingency fund to help with the weekly cruise fee for any members with financial difficulties. If you need help with sailing fees, please contact our new Sailing Secretary Will Armour, the treasurer Trevor Potter or myself.

 2017 Calendar is available here.

Club Championship Trophy: This is presented to the Skipper of the best placed Green Wyvern yacht in The Round the Island Race and the Cecil Howard Memorial Race. This year, the Trophy goes to Arthur Wells on Melody, crewed by Bethany Burwood.

The Tunwell Trophy: Last year, the Commodore introduced a new trophy to be known as The Tunwell Trophy (a Pewter Tankard with a Wyvern Handle) to be awarded for services to the club otherwise unrecognised. The first recipient was John Tunwell. This year, The Tunwell Trophy is awarded to Elsie Vowles, who as a Mate for all four weeks this Summer, has shown exceptional ability. The club received several communications from parents thanking Elsie for her work as an excellent role model to younger sailors.

Senior Instructors and Skippers for Easter and Summer Weeks: Please would Senior Instructors and Skippers let Will Armour know if you are available for Easter and Summer cruises as soon as possible. Thank you.

2017 Calendar: The full calendar is here.  There will be five club weeks, one at Easter and four in the summer. The dates of this year’s cruises are as follows:

Easter Cruise:                          Saturday 15th – Saturday 22nd April 2017
Summer Week 1:                    Saturday 22nd – Saturday 29th July 2017
Summer Week 2:                    Saturday 29th – Saturday 5th Aug 2017
Summer Week 3:                    Saturday   5th – Saturday 12th Aug 2017
Summer Week 4:                    Saturday 12th – Friday 18th Aug 2017

Booking forms are available on our documents page here. We already have several provisional bookings/requests for booking forms. Places on club cruises are allocated on a ‘first-come-first-served’ basis, so if you would like to sail with the Green Wyvern in 2017, we ask you to make your bookings as soon as you can please to avoid disappointment. Bookings will only be confirmed on the receipt of a booking form and the deposit by the dates shown on the booking forms. It is also important that the total amount is paid by the final date as chasing up payments is both embarrassing and time consuming for the Treasurer and Sailing Secretary.

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. I look forward to seeing everyone on the river next year.

Rosemary Winterton (Secretary)
