Tomkins cruise 2011 – 29th April to 2nd May 2011

Dear Wyvern,

The Tony Tompkins Cruise

This year the government have generously allowed an extra day’s holiday to mark the Royal wedding, and we have therefore decided to embrace this fully and make the cruise an extra day in length.  This also allows a little variation from the usual plan, for which the tides do not suit in any case.  (Should you have to miss out on the Friday, we return to Somerleyton for Friday night anyhow).

Therefore, the plan:

Convene at Somerleyton on Thursday evening (for those that are able)

Friday - Berney for lunch, Somerleyton for the night.

Saturday - up promptly to take the flood tide up the Waveney, either to Oulton or a sail to Collier's Dyke and return to Burgh St Peter.  In the afternoon, back down river to Reedham Swing Bridge for slack water @ 5 30 pm.  Up to Reedham Ferry for the night.
Sunday - up promptly again to take the flood up the Yare to Buckenham/Coldham.  PM - back down the Yare.  If the wind is favourable, up to Loddon - the tide will start flooding at about 6 pm.  Otherwise, a night at Reedham Street (to ring the changes) or Cantley.
Monday - disperse.   The tide is going up in the morning, so Loddon isn't great.  But it will start to ebb at about 12 30 for those wishing to sail.

…with thanks to John Duff for poring over the tide tables.

I hope to see as many of you as possible on the river.  Should you be in need of a berth please contact your favourite owner who may be able to oblige.

Simon
